At Cavity Detective Pediatric Dentistry, we believe in taking our mission beyond our office walls. From June1st-15th our pediatric dentist proudly participated in a special Army Reserve dental mission to the MOWA Choctaw Indian Reservation in Mount Vernon, Alabama, as part of the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program.
Dr. Ding of Cavity Detective Pediatric Dentistry once again had the distinct honor of serving communities in need—bringing essential dental care to those with limited access while also representing the strength and compassion of the U.S. Army Dental Corps.
This mission, conducted as part of the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program, allowed Army Reserve dentists, hygienists, and support staff to work alongside tribal leaders and community members to provide free dental exams, extractions, cleanings, and oral health education. The experience was both clinically enriching and deeply meaningful, reinforcing the core values of service, empathy, and readiness.
Over two impactful weeks, our team helped deliver no-cost dental care to a community that historically faces limited access to oral healthcare.
Restoring Oral Health, One Smile at a Time

Many patients seen during this mission had not visited a dentist in years. For children and adults alike, dental needs ranged from routine cleanings, exams, extractions, fluoride treatments, and emergency care.
Common dental issues treated:
- Severe tooth decay in primary and permanent teeth
- Abscesses requiring urgent intervention
- Pediatric patients with multiple untreated caries
In just the first 8 days, over 800 dental encounters were recorded—many of them children receiving their first dental visit ever.
As a pediatric dentist, this mission was a powerful reminder:
- Early prevention saves teeth.
- Education empowers families.
- Every child deserves a cavity-free future, no matter their zip code.
We distributed oral hygiene kits, demonstrated proper brushing and flossing, and educated families on the importance of routine visits—even when resources are scarce.

A Humbling Recognition
One of the most special moments of this mission was when Dr. Ding was presented with a Commander’s Coin for Excellence—a symbol of distinguished service and outstanding contribution. The coin, awarded by the mission commander, recognized Dr. Ding's unwavering dedication, leadership, and compassionate care provided throughout the mission.
“It was an incredible honor to receive this coin,” said Dr. Ding. “But more importantly, it represents the amazing teamwork and shared commitment of every soldier, provider, and community member involved.”

Bringing the Experience Back Home
This mission experience directly reflects the mission of Cavity Detective Pediatric Dentistry: to serve with integrity, compassion, and a heart for education. Whether at home or abroad, Dr. Ding is committed to providing the highest level of care to every child who walks through the doors of his practice.
We are proud of Dr. Ding’s service with the Army Reserve and grateful for the recognition he received. His passion for dentistry and dedication to both his patients and his country is what makes our practice truly unique.
