At Cavity Detective Pediatric Dentistry, our mission has always been simple: help kids build healthy, confident smiles through education, prevention, and fun. We’re proud to share that Dr. Ding was recently recognized by Ocean Partnership for Children for his dedication to teaching children proper oral hygiene techniques and creating positive dental experiences for kids of all abilities.

This recognition highlights the importance of making oral health education engaging, accessible, and empowering—especially for children who benefit from extra support and specialized care.

What is Ocean Partnership for Children?

Ocean Partnership for Children (OPC) is an organization dedicated to providing early intervention services and family support to children with developmental delays and their families. Their programs promote growth, independence, and learning during the most crucial stages of a child’s life.

Dr. Ding has had the privilege of working closely with OPC to help children understand and feel comfortable with oral care—breaking down barriers and fears often associated with dental visits.

Teaching Oral Hygiene in a Way Kids Understand

A person brushes a child's teeth with a yellow toothbrush; both look happy.

A key part of Dr. Ding’s approach is translating complex dental concepts into simple, kid-friendly techniques. Through demonstrations, hands-on learning, and interactive presentations, he focuses on:

🪥 Proper Brushing Technique

Children are taught:

  • How to hold their toothbrush correctly
  • How to use gentle circular motions
  • How long to brush (2 full minutes!)
  • How to clean the front, back, and chewing surfaces of every tooth

Using oversized toothbrush models, fun visuals, and storytelling, kids learn not just how to brush—but why brushing is important.

🦷 Flossing for Kids

Flossing can be tough for little hands, so Dr. Ding demonstrates:

  • How to safely floss without hurting gums
  • Kid-friendly flossing tools and picks
  • The best times to floss during daily routines

🍎 Smart Food Choices for Healthy Teeth

Dr. Ding also teaches children how the foods they eat affect their teeth, explaining:

  • Why sugar causes cavities
  • How water helps protect teeth
  • Why crunchy fruits and veggies help clean teeth naturally

Making Dental Education Fun, Not Scary

One of the reasons Dr. Ding was selected for this award is his ability to connect with children on their level. He uses:

  • Fun characters and stories
  • Age-appropriate explanations
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Encouraging language
  • Interactive games and visuals

Instead of making dentistry feel clinical or scary, he makes it fun and empowering.

A Commitment to the Community
